On April 28th, 2011 Heidi Ackerman will present a capsule collection in collaboration with industrial designer, Lindsay Sinclair at Alternative Arts and Fashion Week. This capsule collection focuses on “accessories” created from bent wood.

Inspiration for the collection is taken from the concept of “future memories”. A type of futuristic camouflage is created through which the viewer is able to imagine a different time and place.

As a special feature this year, |FAT| introduces “Fashion on Film” for which THIRTY9STEPS, Heidi Ackerman and Lindsay Sinclair will present a short fashion film as a precursor to the collection.

Heidi Ackerman’s work has been widely recognized and featured in ZINK, FASHION, Flare, British Supplementaire and Dress to Kill. Her work is sold at Thieves in Toronto, Ukamaku Online Boutique and rented from L’ Armoire Du Styliste in New York City.

Dress To Kill article on Fashion Art Toronto

In October's issue of Dress To Kill there is a great article about Fashion Art Toronto - our alternate fashion week here in Toronto.

FLARE Magazine - October Issue

In the October issue of Flare I was featured in the "Fashion News" section along with two of illustrations from my Orlando Lunaire project.

Orlando Lunaire Photos

In a small, sweaty storage shed in the industrial area of Toronto - Opera Erratica teamed up with Heidi Ackerman to create an underground opera titled Orlando Lunaire. The directore Patrick Eakin Young and Ashiq Aziz (Classical Music Consort)combined two different operas to create a baroque/modern opera mix tape with incredible performers Scott Belluz and Carla Huhtahen.

Le Creative Sweatshop Paper Virus in Newfoundland!

This summer I traveled to Newfoundland to visit my parents. In my suitcase I packed boxes of little blue and white pyramids to create an installation for Le Creative Sweatshop's Paper Virus project. These photos were taken in Grate's Cove, Newfoundland - a tiny fishing village on the Avalon Peninsula. When you are in Grate's Cove it feels like you are on the edge of the world - crashing waves, rugged landscapes and whipping winds. Enjoy!

Design Exchange Visit

This week I visited the Design Exchange to speak to a Green Fashion summer camp for kids between the ages of 9 and 12.

They were a great group of kids who had insightful questions and a great enthusiasm for fashion and sustainability which was amazing to see!

Here is a link to the Design Exchange Blog and a link to their website - they have a great industrial design exhibit on right now!

Orlando Lunaire runs from August 22-28 in Toronto

For the last couple of months I have been creating costumes for underground opera company, Opera Erratica. The production is called Orlando Lunaire and is a mixture of an Italian and German opera. Opera Erratica strives to bring opera to a new generation!
